Erlanger recently recognized registered nurse, Jorge Patino, as the Gold Class Employee of the Month for August. Jorge is a nurse on the Children’s 300/400team, and his story is a great example of compassion and dedication to our patients.
“We had a family in a bad car accident. One of the children needed surgery; the other child unfortunately passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Both parents were in the adult emergency department. They spoke little English; only Spanish. Jorge was working that night on the floor. He came down that night after his shift and translated for the parents to get consent for their child’s surgery, and translated a prayer before surgery. He also translated when the parents were told that their other child had passed away. He stayed over two hours past the end of his shift to provide a service for this family in a very difficult time. An interpreter phone would have been extremely impersonal in such a circumstance.”
Jorge went above and beyond to care for the needs of this family. His actions reflected our core values of honest, excellence, appreciation, respect and trust.
